The notebook does not start

Symptom

In the lab panel, the notebook stays at 0/1 without starting. In Studio, the lab card shows "Tu laboratorio rechazó una petición" (Your lab rejected a request) with a reason.

Cause

The notebook requested more than what is left in the size's budget (CPU, memory, or GPU), a disk type that is not allowed, or the lab already reached its maximum number of objects.

If the notebook requests exactly the lab's maximum (for example, 64 GB in a 64 GB lab), it fails even though the sum seems exact: the container carries a fixed overhead that is charged to the same budget. Lower it by 1 GB and 0.5 CPU (Advanced configuration).

If the notebook was stopped and fails when you resume it, check whether someone downsized the lab in the meantime: downsizing does not take stopped notebooks into account, so one that requested more than what is now available is left unable to start, with no warning (Resize). Scale the lab back up and start the notebook again; the data is still in its volume.

The disk case is silent: if a storage class other than the allowed one was chosen when the volume was created, the volume is rejected and the notebook stays at 0/1 with no message in the lab panel; the reason only appears on the lab card in Studio.

How to confirm it

Read the reason on the card; the four possible messages are in Sizes and quota. Compare the usage chips with what you requested when you created the notebook.

Solution

  1. Edit the notebook with less CPU, memory, or GPU, or stop another notebook in the same lab.
  2. If the rejection is because of the disk class, create the volume with the default storage.
  3. If the reason does not match any of the four, use Reintentar (Retry) on the card and, if it persists, contact your administrator with the text of the message.
